2009 Global Trends: Refugees, Asylum-seekers, Returnees, Internally Displaced and Stateless Persons

Annual figures by the UNHCR show that some 43.3 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide at the end of 2009, the highest number of people uprooted by conflict and persecution since the mid-1990s.

Exploring the Link between Neighbourhood and Newcomer Immigrant Health: A Qualitative Study

Conducted in a multicultural neighbourhood of Toronto, this study examines both the “place-based” characteristics of the neighbourhood and individual-level factors, including newcomer immigrants’ perceptions of the neighbourhood, their social relations, and their access to health and social services in the neighbourhood.
